Doctoral Programs in School Psychology

The doctoral program in school psychology at Indiana State University began in 1965 and was one of the first such programs in the state of Indiana. We are currently accepting applications for our Psy.D. in School Psychology, which is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). We will seek accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) during our next site visit in Spring 2024.

The Psy.D. program is designed to train practitioners who are skilled in evidence-based practice and applied research. The 114-credit program can be completed in five years of full-time study, which includes coursework, a range of practicum experiences, an applied research project, and a 2000-hour internship. Unique features of our program include:

·       Extensive practicum experiences beginning in the first semester of study. Settings include P-12 schools, our own campus-based interdisciplinary clinic, and clinical settings (e.g., residential, clinical, hospital). Students also complete a supervision practicum experience prior to internship.

·       A student-selected, 12-credit sub-specialization that allows focused study in a related area of interest (e.g., counseling, educational leadership, special education)

·       A culminating research project that emphasizes evidence-based practice and consultation to influence change in applied settings.

We are in the process of phasing out our Ph.D. program in Guidance & Psychological Services with a specialization in School Psychology. We are not accepting applications to the Ph.D. program at this time. The Ph.D. program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and approved by NASP.  Questions related to the Ph.D. program’s accredited status should be directed to the Commission on Accreditation  (Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation, American Psychological Association; 750 1st Street, NE; Washington, DC 20002; Phone: (202) 336-5979 / E-mail: apaaccred@apa.org Web: www.apa.org/ed/accreditation).

Questions regarding curriculum and sequencing can be directed to Dr. Carrie Ball (carrie.ball@uupt.net), who currently serves as the Director of Training.
